This project was a fun way to combine my love of woodworking and my love of ethanol without increasing the risk of sawing a finger off. Plus, these things are easy to make as long as you take your time on the bandsaw (provided you, uh, have access to a bandsaw in the first place).
I went to Lowe’s and gave them more of my money in exchange for machine screws, nuts, eye bolt screws, and corks. I bought tiny washers too but ended up not using them.
Trace a shape onto your wood and (slowly) cut it out using a bandsaw or similar tool. This rooster will be for my mom, who takes care of 20ish well-loved chickens and one rooster at my parents’ ranch.
Any shape you want. This one will be headed back down to San Antonio with Christine.
Drill a hole for your screw.
Sand and apply a light stain (optional).
Attach the wood to the cork using your two eye bolt screws, machine screw and nut(s).

And you’re done! Enjoy your wine.
